Shuttle Computer Group and ScholarChip® have teamed up to create a solution designed to keep track of student and staff school attendance efficiently and cost effectively. ScholarChip’s Safety and Operations System incorporates Shuttle’s X50 all-in-one computer with ScholarChip’s software and accessories in a portable kiosk that is designed to be multi-purpose and placed where needed, capturing attendance at a rate over 40 students per minute.

“Shuttle is known for working closely with its partners to create customized products for integration and OEM,” said Marty Lash, director, sales and marketing, Shuttle Computer Group. “Our project with ScholarChip includes a customized BIOS, imaging, and additional functionality integrated into our X50 All-In-One Computer. In addition, we utilize ScholarChip’s golden master and duplicate it for loading on their attendance kiosks. Once the process is in place, deployment is quick and easy.”

The kiosk includes two screens which display student photos as their contactless NFC ID card is waived near the card readers. A printer is attached to the kiosk to create temporary IDs and late passes. When connected to a network, attendance is monitored in real time, giving administrators vital security information as well as accurate student counts used in state funding.

“We find Shuttle computers to be highly integrated and fully compatible with ScholarChip’s hardware and software. With Shuttle devices, we experience full API Support, huge value, rapid turn-around, and deployment of hardware and integrated card readers. Their expertise and customer service continues to exceed our expectations,” said Dr. Maged Atiya, CTO ScholarChip. “With Shuttle's assistance, we now offer schools an integrated school attendance kiosk, allowing students to register their demographics, attendance, and location with the tap of their smart-ID. This is the first instance of a high volume, industrial strength, NFC touch screen PC.”

Kiosks may be configured to generate audio and a visual alert for students with open attendance or discipline issues, and they can display a student-specific message issued by school administrators, a tool used for timely intervention.

With additional hardware, a kiosk may capture visitor information and issue visitor passes. Wall mounted kiosks are also available. Schools use these kiosks for a variety of attendance functions including:

  • Real-time building attendance.
  • Student entry and egress reporting.
  • Exception alerts and student-specific messaging.
  • Late arrival automation and late pass generation.
  • Temporary student ID generation.
  • Cafeteria entry monitoring.
  • Large group and event attendance.
  • Staff entry and egress reporting and time clock functionality.
